May I have the priviledge to open this article to the students of this institution regarding your comment posted on the Mountain Province Exponent issue of April 25, 2009 under the column of Comenttxt. For all the years Xijen has provided on Information Technology in Mountain Province, there has been no issue on the internet as being free and refunded.
I still remember the batch of 2006 when a Computer Technician asked me to deduct his internet fee considering that he has a computer at home and usually does his internet at the computer shops. This raised an issue that whether a student like it or not he/she has to utilize his internet hours as bonafide students of the institution and in order to be aware of the elearning system being introduced as a new online learning system which no other schools has yet adopted.
Ten years ago, I am still a graduating student of Data Center Philippines, Inc at Session Road, Baguio City in Computer Secretarial. Internet fee is compulsory given to us per semester at 1,500 for only 5 hours. That was in 1999! Lucky you are that Xijen provided you with only 500 fee for how many hours.
In the year 2002, I am a 1st year Commerce student of MPSPC-CAS. The first protest made against compulsory internet as a subject. Here, the school is a public wherein there is a policy stated in the government that all government offices should be connected to the internet.
As to the refund of your payment, if I am not mistaken most schools adopt the policy of giving back the money of the student once he/she exits the school and not during his/her school term. I received a 50% off in my tuition fee as I made the dean’s list one semester but I was not able to refund it because I am still enrolling the following semester so upon enrollment, instead of paying the given total assessed in my form, I have been given a discount of 50% off in my tuition only. So it means that a refund or cash given back to a student is only allowed once the student has paid in full and is not coming back to enroll for the next semester. I hope this is clear to all of you students so that next time, better give your complaints directly to the person involved or if you want to be anonymous, put it in writing and you can address it to the CEO. This way you will help the school in solving its problems and not have it publicized with the name of your school mentioned. Remember, there is a point when you will be applying for a job someday, the interviewers will be asking what school you came from.
So students, the best course of action when you have complaints or problems about school matters, do so in a way that you will not have it broadcast outside blackening the name of your alma mater. Good luck students in all your studies and plans! God speed….
